The Best Home Security System Minus The Cost

Of all the home security tips out there, this is the most important – an effective alarm and security system should be reliable!  It will not do you any good to install expensive home security systems if you cannot rely on it to do its job.  In today’s home security alarm system industry, one has a wide range of choices.  But do you know that the best home surveillance system does not have to cost you much?  Here, we will teach you how to create the best home security system without having to spend exorbitant amounts.

A quick background
Many homeowners simply install CCTV cameras and hope that it will deter home invasions, burglary and theft.  But little do they know that home surveillance systems like these are often passive.  This means that the crime has already been perpetrated.  Although it can help aid in the investigation it does not truly deter crime to take place.  As such, there are more active ways to protect your home.

Multiple lock systems

Although this sounds like a complicated security system, it is simply adding more than one lock to your doors.   Here are different types of lock systems that youkan buy.  But it would be prudent to buy different kinds and put it at different locations of the door.  Should one lock fail, at least you have another to deter entry.  You may want to use deadbolts, chain locks and similar devices to add to your home’s protection.  Locks can cost you around $20 USD and this is a cheap way to protect your home.

Magnetic alarm systems

This home security device is deceptively simple.  It works by using magnets.  When the two pieces are separated they give off a loud sound.  They usually work using a AAA batter but some variants use smaller button batteries.  This is great for doors and windows.  The drawback is that you have to check on the batteries every so often.  But at less than $3 USD each, you can have an effective security gadget in place at home.

Motion sensitive lights

This home security alarm system works using an infrared sensor.  When motion is detected lights are switched on.  This is a great way to tell intruders that there is someone at home – even if there Is no one there.  The lights are automatically switched off after several minutes.  This home security device is best placed in poorly lit areas and possible intrusion points in your property.  Moreover, at around $5 USD a piece, it is a must have in all homes.

Infrared motion detectors

Just like the previous alarm system, this works using infrared sensors.  But instead of switching on a light, it sends out a loud sound to alert the owners of the home.  In many models, both light and sound alarm systems are packaged into one device.  Likewise, this is best placed in poorly lit areas or possible entry points of intruders.

Laser motion detectors

This may sound like something out of a James Bond Movie but these devices are now common in homes.  Moreover, they have become cheaper through the years.  In fact, there are even DIY kits found on the internet for you to make.  Unlike infrared sensors, these devices use a laser light (similar to your laser pointer) that is focused on a light sensitive terminal.  When the light source is cut off, an alarm is triggered.   You can place this around your home as an additional layer of protection and warning system for your home.  These devices can cost around $50 USD.  But what’s great is that you can use mirrors to extend the reach of just one laser activated motion detectors.

Combining different types of home security systems can improve your home’s protection.  Moreover, they do not have to cost too much to add some deterrents.  So before you invest in expensive CCTV cameras or state of the art home security systems, known that you have a choice.  Sometimes, the simpler the system the more effective it is.  In fact, having a dog has been a great security system in our family.  You can a pet and a guard at the same time.  This only proves that you have a more cost effective choice for your home’s protection.
