you with skills. But more importantly,
it will provide the discipline needed to stay away from fights.
There is
always someone faster than you, stronger than you and more experienced than
you. Should you encounter them in the
real world, you’d better hope that it is a cordial one. This is where prudence comes in handy.
A little of everything is enough

fighting styles in the hopes of increasing one’s arsenal. This is a good start. But many fail to realize that mastery is
still important.
I once read
an article where they referred to these people as “partial artists”. There is a buffet of martial arts styles out
there and simply getting a few techniques here and there can be
detrimental. Knowing the basics of a
self defense technique is one thing.
Mastering the same basic principles is a very different situation. Knowing is very different from mastering.
The appeal
of martial arts is understandable. For
some it is a way towards health and wellness.
For some it is a necessity in their profession. For some it is just a way to express their
selves. Regardless of what your reason

understand that our perception of self defense may be skewed. Moreover, having
a clear mindset and understanding what it is about can improve one’s learning
curve and avoid and complications in the future.
